How could he give a pen and not send the keeper off?
The lino on the New Road side must be the worst I have seen. How can you get an offside wrong when its 2 bloody yards wrong? He did it twice once when he gave Donaldson offside when he was clearly on nad then again in the second half when their player was clearly off. How do these clowns keep their jobs?

Ref Watch

Attwell's reputation precedes him for mistakes he made years ago but my god didn't he live up to his negative reputation tonight. Far too pally with the Swindon squad for his own good. He had a shocker.

Exactly the same as the Chelsea keeper - Donaldson didn't have control of the ball so whilst it was a clear penalty, you couldn't see Clayton scoring if the keeper hadn't have fouled him. IMO.

Ref Watch

Maybe I'm in a minority but I thought he got nearly everything right tonight which admittedly for him on past form is unusual!

Ref Watch

Having seen the Pen again I do think that Atwell may have got it right, Clayton was never getting the ball and a defender probably got back just in time.

I thought he was generally ok - the crowd wanted to give him a hard time but I guess he must get used to that by now.

Ref Watch

.............thought Attwell got the bookings right and was generally good..............

Ref Watch

Glad I got off my sick bed for that!

Typical performance by a celebrity ref. over fussy, wanted to be the centre of attention, inconsistent. Basically a prize bell end.

Maybe so but listening to the Swindon fans on the way out they thought he was poor and gave them nothing.

Don't particularly like Attwell but didn't think he had a bad game.

Ref Watch

He got the big decisions right to be fair but I find him a strange character.

He likes his whistle and cards and is quick to give a lot of rather technical fouls than let the game flow. He also seems to want to chat to the players all the time but they seem to simply want to ignore him...

Ref Watch

He wasn't shocking, probably got most decisions right but as others have said he makes sure he is the centre of attention and makes himself look a tit. The whole lecture to Uwe was ridiculous, he should have told Uwe to keep quiet and got the game flowing again.

Ref Watch

That is the first time I've seen Atwell in person as I've been on holiday the two previous times we've had him and while I think he got a few things wrong, I thought he got most things right, and having seen a replay of the penalty decision he got it spot on. If it had been any other ref, I really don't think we would have been com menting on his performance personally.

Ref Watch

Decent referee tonight, the way you can measure it is if you think the ref gives a few of their decisions the wrong way imo.

Today he was very even. I can't think of a decision where he acted particularly biased in either direction. Therefore he was probably good...

The time you can tell a bad referee is when you can see a couple of decisions that should have gone their way that he doesn't give at all... that's the sign of a bad referee, if he doesn't give things our way doesn't prove anything.

Me too. When we were 1:0 down, some of the calls for infringements from our fans were beyond spurious!

Ref Watch

We wouldn't be talking about the ref at this length if his name was Joe Bloggs. Worth recognising that last night's game was a hard one to referee, with both teams really going for it, a few potential flashpoints, and both teams taking it in turn to spin out the time. There are a few of our League 1 regulars who would have lost it for sure.

Ref Watch

Excellent performance imho. Gave out quite a few cards but all were justified. I can't remember disagreeing with any of his decisions which is rare for a ref at GP.

Must say I agree. Let the game flow and dealt with that spell in the second half when players were getting at one another with reckless fouls well..

Ref Watch

Couldn't complain about him. He seemed to get all the decisions right. I liked the one where he waited to see which player picked the ball up for a throw-in by the dugouts as neither he nor the lino could work it out was interesting!

Ref Watch

Thought he was very average until he awarded that penalty! Gave them little niggly free kicks whilst giving us, to me anyway! nothing. Booked Forshaw for another dive, thought he was fouled, didn't give a penalty for Donaldson or Harlee being pulled back/shirt pulling, then he gives one for Sam Saunders getting pushed and a high foot, not really sure what he gave it for really! Glad he did though!

Ref Watch

Thought he had a good enough game today in fairness.

Forshaw wasn't booked, although he might well have dived.

I think it was a bit of a 'homer' penalty - looked to me like Sam just headed for a bunch of defenders he was never going to get through, and went down when he hit them. Anyway, it was more likely to be given than the other hopeful shouts.

Ref Watch

A reasonable performance and a correct booking for Trotta, who showed a lot of Italian in that dive. Generally fair, if a little bit fineky.

Ref Watch

Thought he was a very good ref throughout.
Not fussy at all and kept the game flowing.
Funny how people see things different. Still it's all about opinion

Ref Watch

Finickity and annoying IMO - made up for it in the end though

Ref Watch

I thought he was bloody awful. But you could count the competent refereeing displays this season on the fingers of one mitten.

Ref Watch

Not the worst display but I felt he got conned for free kicks a bit easily by both sets of players and could let have get the game go.

Ref Watch

I thought he was terrible! Clayton and Bradley were being pushed, shoved and pulled all day and he gave them nothing.

You must have been watching the same game as me. I'm not sure where some of the other people on this thread were but it couldn't have been Griffin Park. He was a crock of sh*t!

Ref Watch

.............their keeper took the rise out of him with his time wasting antics................but got his commuppence with the late late penalty..........

Ref Watch

I thought the ref today was poor, he continually allowed Preston (particuarly Rudd) to waste time and seemed to give them anything when they went down. Whilst I think he was right to book Trotta, apart from that I thought he played in to their game plan of wasting time, as he seemed to hold up the game by talking to players for no reason and giving them a free kick everytime they went down. At least he got the penalty right at the end though!

Ref Watch

Thought he was poor. He set the scene when not giving a penalty in the first half for some blatant wrestling on Clayton. No help from his lino on New Rd either. The fact he booked 4 of ours and only 1 of them summed him up.

Ref Watch

We've had considerable worse and I'm glad he set his stall out early regarding stealing 10 yards at throw-ins. He got conned for a free kick early on by their 14 but it was fun to see our 14 do the same against him! The match was littered with players going over easily and, I have to say, we have forwards who take a tumble when they run out of ideas; only Adeyemi kept on his feet going forward. A nice cameo was their winger bashing into L Moore on the touchline, as he shadowed a ball out, only to bounce off him. I can't see how PNE can complain about the penalty, Sam was clattered from both sides.

Ref Watch

Keith Stroud for Saturday's game. We had him earlier in the season at GP v Coventry. He also officiated the Yeovil-Swindon game the other night and dished out 9 yellow cards

Ref Watch

...............an inconsistent plonker today.............

Ref Watch

Fussy today, far too fussy. Their 20 seemed to go down at the slightest contact all game, even after he'd been booked in the first half (at least I think it was him). Ref did seem to give them a lot today and ensured he was centre stage. Fussy plonker, and he was supposed to be one of the more experienced refs.

Ref Watch

Yes, I agree, Mathieson ran around booking people for very soft events but at least he called proceedings to a halt promptly when Harlee was knocked out. 3/10

Ref Watch

Not always critical of refs because most of the time they're not as bad as is made out. But he was ****ing shocking today, yellows for nothing, fouls for nothing yet don't give us the same. Poor penalty shout as well.

Ref Watch

Why only 4 minutes injury time at the end? Harlee must have been down for longer than that before you add on time for subs.

Ref Watch

I try to be fair as appreciate the difficulty they face however felt today's ref and his assistants were particularly poor and made an art out of getting decisions wrong all over the pitch

With regards to the penalty I would have no problem with it providing the same criteria is applied for both teams and for every game. We have all seen physical contact in the box forward/defender and nothing is done. If today's ref reckons it was a pen then he will be giving about 10 pens per game if consistent!!!!
