Well done Stuart Atwell. Good decisions at half-time and during the second half got this match finished.

Stuart Attwell

I wonder if that would have happened if the game hadn't been on TV?

It wouldn't have been on. Attwell made some baffling decisions during the game (not the stopping of the game ones) including booking Rory Fallon for an elbow after 3 mins.... even the commentary team thought it was a joke. Banana was obviously on another day off when we played Notts Co.

Stuart Attwell

Oh I get i now, because he ****ed up in one match he ****s up in every match

Stuart Attwell

Regardless of who the ref was, that game should have been called off.

I'm making a note of the "BFC have ****ed up and in the old days the lines would have been cleared and a orange ball used" brigade.....

He's well know for having f***ed up in several matches

Only those who employ him rate him. Fans and players certainly don't.

.........................Good to see that, although it might have taken quite a while, you've finally seen the light..............................:fishing:

Leroy didn't agree with you.

I happen to think a large number of the weekend's games could have gone ahead. If Exeter got theirs going when their airport was severely disrupted this week, many others could have for sure. Get out the orange ball and get on with it. Apart from the usual dithering, it was hard to fault the eventual decision taken by Atwell, and as above Leroy agreed.

Stuart Attwell

I hate to say it but fair play for completing the game. Nothing wrong with getting the orange ball out and playing on a bit of snow.

Stuart Attwell

Pitchwise, I would agree with you, but the players and officials of Chesterfield would disagree having spent well over 14 hours getting back from Gillingham where the game was called off mid-morning. http://www.chesterfield-fc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10435~2247377,00.html

Colchester United (at Bristol Rovers) suffered a similar fate.
Interesting to see Wasps v Dragons went ahead this afternoon. The Wasps club advised nobody to travel unless within walking distance. Poor crowd (one stand open) with a third from South Wales!

I think many pitches would have been OK... all Prem, except Blackpool, I imagine. But, with police etc saying don't travel unless absolutely necessary, it would have been hard to justify getting 60,000 people to head for the Emirates at the height of the snow-storm.

But I think the pitch alone would have ruled out our game

Poor decision by Attwell to start the game imo - but then I'm biased!

The point is that it was quite possible that one side would get a good lead - in this case Ipswich - & then the game would be virtually impossible to abandon (would have been interesting if LCFC had been leading).

All the commentators felt that the game would have been abandoned at half time if the score had been 0-0, & the situation that occurred was predictable.

If a player had been seriously injured, whether due to the weather or not, the decision to play would also quite possibly have been heavily criticised.

He got away with it in the end, but I don't think it was a common-sense decision.

Btw, ask Reading, Watford, Derby, Notts Forest fans - to name but a few -for their opinion on SA - I don't think peoples' decisions are made on one game. I thought Oliver was poor after the Notts Cty game but have subsequently seen him do well in several other games. My opinion on SA has sadly been confirmed by subsequent viewings.

Stuart Attwell

In Atwells very slight defence I would imagine there would have been a lot of pressure to get the match on as the Sky cameras were there.

Stuart Attwell

The F A have rewarded him for his efforts as he has been given the prestigious game between Bury v Torquay as the next match he referees.

it does seem to be the case, have u been living on Mars over the last two years

Stuart Attwell

had a shocker today.. can't wait to see his **** up at Spurs..

Stuart Attwell

Dreadful sending off

Stuart Attwell

to be fair, it wasn't his most outrageous decision ever. Probably wouldn't even make his Top 5.
gutted cahill gets i-3 points in my fantasy league team though.

Stuart Attwell

what's the law exactly? does it say "last man"? or "goalscoring opportunity"? parker was away, Zat Knight in the middle was turning like the Titanic, and even if he'd caught him then Parker had a teammate surging through alongside him. it was certainly a "goalscoring opportunity". i know it's fun to pile on Attwell but this didn't look such a bad decision

Stuart Attwell

Every attack can be seen as a goalscoring opportunity though. Its an opportunity to score isn't it?

Being in your own half/half way line is very very harsh to send off for this... Not many things get you a straight red, but Attwell must need the attention all the time.

I suppose its been a while since he was in the news so needed bringing up again - or has he got a book coming out this Christmas?

Stuart Attwell

be sensible  "clear goalscoring opportunity" then :)

i think we'd have been chanting "off off off" if that happened to a Bee. "being in your own half" - i saw another report say Parker was "tight to the touchline" - deliberately melodramatic

Stuart Attwell

I don't think a lot of us would have been to be honest.

But we come to expect that of Attwell.

A lot of referees would have used common sense and dished a yellow...

I thought the same when I saw it but then 'Arry said it was wrong ;)

Stuart Attwell

yeah fair enough. i'm just not sure it was such a shocker as it's been portrayed...

Stuart Attwell

seriously?

he was away, with support. it was certainly "a chance"

Stuart Attwell

red card's been overturned, seems it was just me and Tw*twell

Stuart Attwell

Tried to referee a game most probably...

When will the FA learn :(

Stuart Attwell

What's he done now?

Things got even tougher for McCarthy's side when Milijas was sent off for a foul on Arteta on the edge of the box.

It appeared a harsh decision against the midfielder, who won the ball before taking down the Spaniard with his follow through, but referee Stuart Attwell was quick to produce the red card
:banghead:

Stuart Attwell

I was at the game today and SA just does not have the ability or composure to referee at the top level.

Stuart Attwell

Surely it's time the powers that be admit they've made a mistake and remove him from the elite list. He's a complete embarrassment and is fast becoming the most famous ref in the world for all the wrong reasons.

Stuart Attwell

Stuart Attwell

Caught the end of the match on Five Live. They said Attwell was ok for 60 mins but then totally lost control. I will never forget him not rescnding Elders red card.

Stuart Attwell

I bet the FA only keep him in because his flagrant mistakes create "controversy" and "big talking points". That's FIFA's reason for not sorting out the offside rule and goal-line technology right?

Stuart Attwell

He was fine for an hour although as arrogant as ever then he just unravelled and was influenced by the crowd and pressure.

Compare him with Michael Oliver who also makes mistakes as they all do but who seems to have a presnce and commands respect.

Got to agree with this. Oliver has learned from his mistakes and is now pretty decent. Attwell just keeps going on and on & seems to court controversy - just like a certain G Poll imo.

Stuart Attwell

I noticed Attwell didn't talk with any of the people he booked. Vermaealen got booked and I've no idea why. The tv didn't show a reason.

From Wiki:
Attwell was the centre of more controversy after he sent off Nenad milijas of Wolverhampton Wanderers in a fixture against Arsenal. After the incident the Wolves manager Mick McCarthy soon lodged a complaint about the harsh decision. Attwell's decision to send of Milijas further highlighted the fact he is the worse referee in the world and shouldn't be allowed near a football match in the future, let alone officiate in one especially at such a high standard. The man is a complete joke and a fool who should never be taken seriously.

..........even mullet man Pat Sharpe had a dig at him on the radio this morning...........
