Well done Humphries.

5th title in 9 months .

MVG with some costly errors.

An entertaining final but neither player were anywhere near their best! I realise Humphries averaged over 100 but he's been so good this year, that I would count it as a dip in performance!

The business end of the season gets underway tonight with the start of the World Darts Grand Prix - unique because it’s the only ‘double in’ tournament on the calendar.

Luke Humphries won last year to begin his year of domination but has a very a difficult first round tie against Stephen Bunting.

Watch out for Gary Anderson who’s playing incredibly at the moment.

He loves that double 15 and is normally good on but it’s unconventional and risky.

It’s impossible not to get behind Nathan Aspinall. Even by dart player standards he comes across as so down to earth. Scrappy bastard as well who just never lies down.

Brutal for Cameron Menzies (aka Mr Fallon Sherrick). Worked his b***ocks off the on the Pro Tour all year to get a shot at this and doesn’t muster a leg.

The Ando-Smith match lived up to expectations.

MVG dropping an absolute stinker having played well of late while Joe Cullen got a massively needed win.

I really do find James Wade to be a charmless tosspiece.

Joyce tried his best to bottle it. But Aspinall let him off.

Imagine it's a Cross vs Humphries semi in that side of the draw. With Humphries making the final.

Other side seems more open!

Gary Anderson has a great chance of reaching the final on the other side of the draw - I took him at 12/1 over a week ago ?

Yep. Price going out didn’t surprise me at all as he’s been pretty poor all year and Wade’s played well lately but Anderson was a shock.

Good to see Joe Cullen progress after a tough year.

Is this a new thing (the starting bit, that is)? And why don’t they go for double top?

This tournament is unique is requiring a "double in". Some do go for double top, but assume a more "vertical" double is a higher percentage shot.

Makes sense, but they are so used to hitting the horizontal treble and double twenty, you’d think it an obvious choice. Not a massive difference in points though, so still makes sense, I guess.

Double 16 is a popular ‘out’ shot for a lot of players because it’s less likely they end up having to split I.e if you go inside on D16, you get a go at D8, you go inside on that, you get a go at D4 and so on.

Whereas if you go inside on D20 and keep going inside eventually you’re in a situation where you’re left on 5 and have to burn a dart on single 1 to get to D2.

So a lot of players prefer to finish on D16 then D20 and because they’re so comfortable on it they choose to start on D16 in this tournament.

Make sense?!

Nine darter was probably possible as I think it was double to start but only 301 & a double to finish. Although most games seemed to invariably end with everyone on double 1?

That’s my kind of darts. ? Round the Clock can take days in my house. “Killer” is rarely fatal. ???

Most players have their favourite doubles to finish on - usually 20 or 16 - so it stands to reason that they choose to go in on the same double as they feel most confident on it.

Just about habit really i.e when James Wade tries to go in on a 20 and it falls low blocking his path he automatically switches to the 10 - as opposed to a higher number - because that’s what he’s most used to doing at the end of a leg.

Thought I’d found someone to follow when I found that Joe Cullen is from Bradford. Then I saw he’s a Wigan Warriors fan! Total sacrilege! What is he thinking?

No idea. He’s also supports Man United!

Yep. Though given D17 in the most seldom used double on the board it would be an odd choice to start!

I would normally agree but we have the 'odd' Luke Littler playing nowadays so anything goes
